Collection Principles:
Featured books are taken from the Gustine Courson Weaver Collection at the University of North Texas Libraries. The site is to be an overview of the important artists and publishers, focusing on books published after 1850. Examples will be added to the site as more books are acquired.
Object Characteristics:
Most images are click-able for a larger view, but few enlarge much more than 400x500 ppi. Many images are animated to depict the scenes in action. At least one video is available - showing the continued motion after page opening.
Metadata:
In addition to the narrative, bibliographic information is provided for each book (title, publishing info, author, illustrator, description of image). References are provided for further research.
Intended Audience:
Popular / special interest and scholarship. The site does provide a clear overview and some fun images. It’s a good starting point for further scholarship, or interested browsing.
